About

Disaster management refers to the systematic process of preparing , responding and recovering from natural or man-made disasters such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, fires , terrorist attacks, and other emergencies. The goal of disaster management is to reduce the impact of disasters on people, property, and the environment by taking proactive measures to minimize risks and damage before a disaster occurs.

Disaster management efforts aim to reduce or avoid the potential losses from hazards, assure prompt and appropriate assistance to the victims of a disaster, and achieve a rapid and effective recovery. It is crucial that hospitals remain safe and functional during and after disasters.

Types of disasters usually fall into two broad categories: natural and man-made. Natural disasters are generally associated with weather and geological events, including extremes of temperature, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and drought.
