The College was founded on the philanthropy of Late Prasannadeb Raikat (after whom the college is gratefully named) and his wife Rani Ashrumati Devi in 1950. Prasannadeb Women‘s College was established with the end in view to promoting quality higher education exclusively to women not only in a developmentally backward district of West Bengal, but also in the developmentally laggard region of North Bengal.
