The Waikhom Mani Girls’ College located at Thoubal Okram, Thoubal District, Manipur, 22 km away from Imphal city, was established on 20th November 1980 with great enthusiasm by the local people, educationist and social workers for promotion of female higher education where the women literacy rate is very low in comparison to those of urban areas. At the time of establishment the college was named “Thoubal Girls’ College”. On 9th February 1981, the foundation stone of the college was laid down at the present campus of Thoubal Okram village, beside the Indo Myanmar road “NH 39”. Waikhom Ahanba Singh, donated Rs. 1,00,000/- for construction of four classrooms and the College was rechristened to Waikhom Mani Girls’ College in honour of his father Waikhom Mani Singh, Ex-Deputy Minister, Education, Government of Manipur (1965).).
