Govt. Thakur Ranmat Singh College of Excellence is one of the reputed and oldest institutions imparting higher education in Madhya Pradesh. The College was established by Maharaja of Rewa, King Raghuraj Singh in 1869 as a public school. The institution was soon upgraded to the status of High school in 1882 and was renamed as Durbar High school.
