Government Mukut Dhar Pandey college was established on 5 August, 1985 by the then Govt. of Madhya Pradesh. The new building came in to existence in October 1996. Earlier to it, the college functioned at tribal basic school campus. This college, located in the tribal area, has a very large catchment area covering nearly 200 sq. kms. Even today the nearest college located in its north is 130 kms away at Udaipur (Surguja) . The distance being the reason, arts and commerce classes started with the beginning of this college.
