Government General Degree College at Kushmandi is one of the latest colleges established by the Government of West Bengal, situated in Kushmandi Block of Dakshin Dinajpur. This district, situated in the northern part of West Bengal, has a long political history by its name. After the partition of India the erstwhile undivided Dinajpur district was bifurcated. While approximately two third of the Dinajpur district was included in East Pakistan (present Bangladesh), the remaining portion became a part of India renamed as West Dinajpur. Again on the 1st April of the year 1992, for the sake of proper administrative expediency, West Dinajpur was further subdivided into Uttar (North) Dinajpur and Dakshin (South) Dinajpur.
