COURSES AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS WITH SCIENCE STREAM (MEDICAL & NON MEDICAL) IN DELHI UNIVERSITY
Normally, many science students think they just have a
handful of courses available to them in Delhi University and they can only choose
for courses with science subjects only, which is absolutely NOT TRUE. There are 47 courses available for
students with science background.
Students who studied PCM, or PCB for two years should bear
fruits out of it. The world is open for you. You have an open opportunity and
maximum number of programmes in DU that are available, not only from science,
but also programmes related to humanities,
management, journalism and commerce as well.
We all know that admission now to Delhi University is through CUET. And there are 3 sections in CUET. Section A is language specific test, Section B is domain subject test and has two parts, in B1 there are ALL CORE SUBJECTS and in B2 there are ADDITIONAL SUBJECTS, Section C is a GENERAL TEST.
Now the confusion arises here, what is it we need to take
when we need to appear in a particular course? Do we need to opt chemistry, or
biology? Now let’s check the eligibility and requirement of all the 47 courses.
Let’s start with Science, Maths,
and Technology based programmes, these programmes are available for students
who have taken physics, chemistry, and biology. And science students have an
extra advantage as they need to score 30% in section 1 that is the language
specific test.
Talking about the eligibility of courses like b.sc (h)
botany, b.sc (h) zoology, b.sc (h) microbiology, b.sc (prog) life sciences,
b.sc (prog) applied life science, b.sc (h) anthropology, b.sc (h) biological
science, b.sc (h) biomedical science require PCB combination and 30% in section
1.
Now comes the courses for PCM students, if you want to go for b.sc (h) physics, chemistry, polymer science, or b.sc in applied physical science, you need PCM combination with 30% eligibility in section 1.
You have three courses available with b.sc physical science
that is- you have b.sc in applied physical science with chemistry, with
analytical chemistry, and with industrial chemistry.
Next comes b.sc (h) electrical science, b.sc (h) instrumentation, b.sc (h) physical science with electronics, and b.sc (prog) physical science with CS/IP, you need physics and maths as a mandatory subject, but you have an option in subject three, between chemistry, CS, and IP. Students who think their physics and maths is good but chemistry is average, and have CS, or IP can enter in these programmes.
Let’s move further, if you want to do, b.sc (h) environmental
science, b.sc (h) food tech, or b.sc (h) geology, the mandatory subjects are
physics and chemistry but there is an option between bio and maths. And you
have an option between bio, geology, maths and geography for b.sc (h) in
geology in third subject
If you want to do b.sc (h) biochemistry, then biology and chemistry are compulsory subjects and you can choose between maths and physics as your third subject. For b.sc (h) home science, biology is important, and you can choose between physics, and maths as the second mandatory subject, and choose in between IP, CS as the third mandatory subject.
If you want to pursue b.sc (h) maths, b.sc (h) statistics, b.sc (h) computer science or b.sc (prog) mathematical science, maths is your mandatory subject, you can choose between any B1 subject (chemistry/ physics/ biology) and you can choose between any B1 subject as your third subject (IP/ CS). But in these courses, section 1 of CUET holds the entire weightage.
To pursue B.tech in IT & Mathematical Innovation you need language test, maths as a compulsory subject, and have to appear in General Section as well of the CUET. And if you are a PCB or PCM female student, you have an advantage you can do b.sc (pass) home science, and there are two options to do this course- any one language in section 1, two subject from B1 and one from B2 or B1, or Any one language, any one subject from the B1 or B2 and the general test.
Now let’s take a look on Commerce
Courses which are open for science students. Some management courses
like BMS, BBA-FIA, BBE require any one language, maths as compulsory subject,
and a general test.
B.com is also an option for science students, and there are
two options to get admission in this course, one is any one language, 2
subjects from B1, and one subject from B1 or B2, and the second option is any
one language, 1 subject from B1 or B2, and general test.
You can also choose b.com (h) as well, in this any one language, maths as compulsory subject and one subject from B1, and one subject from B1 or B2.
There are courses available from Arts
and Humanities too. You can consider, BA, BA (H) English, BA (H) Economics.
If you are a creative person and like to be on television, then you can think about BA Journalism, there are two ways to enter, first is English as mandatory language, 2 subjects from B1, and one subject from B1 or B2, and the second option is English as one language, 1 subject from B1 or B2, and general test.
For the 5 year integrated program in Journalism,
either take English as language and write General Test, or take Hindi as
language and write the General Test. And if you’re a female, you have option
for BA in multi-media and mass-com with any one language, and multimedia/ or
mass-com as a mandatory subject and write GT.
There are many more courses from Arts and Humanities which can be considered such as BA (H) applied psychology, psychology, social work, history, geography, political science, philosophy, humanities and social science, sociology- all of them require you to write any one language, 2 subjects from B1, and one subject from B1 or B2.
